1. Will I get a free dongle and cable?

  1. No, but that’s only because there is no dongle or cable to install. Daimler Truck already factory-installed the telematics hardware in your truck. When you combine that with the Class8 app, you have an FMCSA compliant ELD.

2. Why don’t you use a separate ELD device?

a. Daimler Truck already factory-installed the telematics hardware in your truck so you don’t need a separate ELD device.

b. Cellular coverage is also much better than it used to be so it’s a lot easier to do this today than it was when the ELD mandate dropped in 2017. Take a look:

3. What trucks / models can use the free Class8 ELD?

  1. Class8 works with North American built Daimler and Freightliner trucks, 2019 model years and newer. Some exceptions may apply.

4. What if my truck doesn’t have factory installed telematics?

  1. Unfortunately, at this time we can only offer this service with compatible trucks that have compliant factory-installed telematics but you can connect your existing ELDs to Class8 and manage every asset from a single screen.

5. Are there any additional costs?

  1. No, there are no additional costs. If you have an eligible truck, just download the free Class8 ELD app to your cell phone or tablet (we don't provide the mobile device or data plan) and get started. See our full terms and conditions for more details.
